Learn how to create a kinesthetic, student- centered, proficiency-based classroom. This workshop explores how understanding National Standards and proficiency-based instruction strategies can create an interactive, student-centered classroom.
Day 1: Observation Day
Participants will spend time in student-centered, proficiency-based classes observing strategies and techniques for a variety of levels. See how movement, pairings and groupings, speaking and literacy are cohesively brought together in one class period. Classes will be in Spanish, however, debriefs will be in English. Since many aspects are so visual, a non-speaking Spanish teacher will still benefit greatly from the experience. Participants will hear from students through a Student Panel.
Day 2: Foundations Workshop
What is Second Language Acquisition research and how does that apply to the classroom? This workshop includes activities with students from the host school and directly addresses teacher confidence in an immersion classroom. This session includes activities designed around building a strong sense of community and solidarity, creating curriculum based off of the student, and language levels.
