Spring Series: NEST Feedback Protocol

We are excited to offer, for the first time ever, a Series dedicated completely to the OWL NEST protocol. The protocol is an inclusive process devoted to offering and receiving feedback through focusing on growth minded, applicable outcomes. Building on teachers’ own goals, the NEST protocol allows teachers to foster positive relationships while improving their practice. The protocol seamlessly incorporates SEL practices & solid curricular action steps. This exclusive Series is for leaders, teachers, and departments. Leaders will leave with a viable protocol to implement with teachers and departments can implement sound practices that will help them grow together. Teachers who attend solo will learn valuable skills that they can begin to use with colleagues and admin.

We highly encourage groups and departments to attend together, in order to implement together. Contact [email protected] in order to receive a group discount.

Session 1 – Community building and NEST Overview

It is important to have a positive relationship established with the teacher or colleague prior to using NEST. This session will demonstrate ways to build community, as we share an overview of the NEST process and discuss the most effective ways to set up a NEST protocol.

Session 2 – The ‘N’ in NEST

This session focuses on the first element of NEST. The strategy will be introduced and explained, then time is given to practice implementing the ‘N’, which focuses on bringing attention and awareness to a positive element of a teachers’ practice. We will provide examples and show sample situations of when and how to use this element. Following the description and practice, we will debrief and discuss how you can best use the ‘N’ in NEST.

Session 3 – The ‘E’ in NEST

This session focuses on the second element of NEST. The strategy will be introduced and explained, then time is given to practice implementing the ‘E’. This element is where the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) element is brought in to the protocol. Examples and sample situations of when and how to use this element will be shared and demonstrated. We will then practice combining the first two elements of NEST. Following the description and practice, we will debrief and discuss how to best use the first two elements of NEST.

Session 4 – The ‘S’ in NEST

This session focuses on the third element of NEST. The strategy will be introduced and explained, then time is given to practice implementing the ‘S’. This element brings in practical action steps that are meant to move you closer to your goals and improve a specific element of your practice. Examples and sample situations of when and how to use this element will be shared and demonstrated. In this session, you will also practicing combining the NES. Following the description and practice, we will debrief and discuss how you can best use the first three elements of NEST.

Session 5 – The ‘T’ in NEST and Classroom Application

This final session focuses on the fourth element of NEST. The strategy will be introduced and explained, then time is given to practice implementing the ‘T’. This last step wraps the whole protocol together in a demonstration of gratitude and further builds the positive relationship between the participants in the protocol. Examples and sample situations of when and how to use this element will be shared and demonstrated. For this exciting finale, we will put it all together in the full final NEST protocol. Following the description and practice, we will debrief and discuss how you can best use NEST and ideas for implementation in your department, school or classroom.
