Plan Less, Engage More: Spring Virtual Series

More Connection. More Joy. More Language.

This Series will deliver what you and your students need right now. From daily planning to overall curriculum, you will leave with a clear, proficiency-driven framework, practical and effective tools you can use immediately, and a whole lot of fun and connection, right when you need it most! Each session provides you with a personalized, ready-to-use plan, ideas you can build on all year long and renewed joy and energy.

Goals:

  • Students talking to each other
  • Real, spontaneous communication
  • Less planning, more impact in all 4 skills & 3 modes
  • Easy-to-use strategies (next day ready)
  • A classroom that feels alive!

Values:

  • Proficiency as the foundation
  • Engagement comes from relevance + interaction
  • Systems that reduce overwhelm
  • Students drive the communication
  • Consistent design = less planning

April 15Session 1: Build the Class That Practically Runs Itself – This session introduces a classroom framework that increases student-to-student interaction, movement, and engagement. It creates consistent student discourse and provides a structure you can reuse daily (without reinventing everything). This framework integrates all 4 language skills and all 3 ACTFL modes. Plus, it will streamline and simplify your planning time. It’s a win-win!

April 29Session 2: From Practice to Purpose: Real-World Communication in Class – This session provides tangible ways to make our content and topics relevant, real-life and authentic. Three specific elements will help us keep our planning to a minimum, while designing experiences that maximize student ownership in the language and ground instruction in meaningful interactions and purpose. Leave with a lesson plan to use for your next topic.

May 13Session 3: Right Level, Real Hook: ACTFL-Aligned & Ready To Go – If it doesn’t feel real, students check out. In this session, we focus on authentic literacy and culture to create hooks that pull students in and integrate student voice. You’ll learn how to choose real-world texts, media, and culturally relevant content, at the appropriateACTFL level—so students want to engage. You will create a plan during the session that you can use right away in your classroom.

May 27 Session 4: Level Up Your Questions & Student Responses – Shows us how to

  • A. Recognize the ACTFL level of our students
  • B. Know the appropriate level prompt and question to use
  • C. Learn how to give feedback on their responses, both oral and written.
  • *In Session 5, we will look at how to assess and use rubrics in these contexts and provide tools for equitable, confidence-building assessment

June 3Session 5: Less Grading. More Growth: A Fresh Lens on Proficiency Rubrics – This session showcases several rubrics and ways to use them for specific purposes in class. The goal is to make the rubrics work for you—not add more to your plate. You’ll explore practical, easy-to-use proficiency rubrics for real communication tasks and strategies for both student self-reflection + teacher feedback. The best part is that it provides easy ways to track language growth over time & gives feedback that helps students consistently grow their language.

Each session will build on the previous sessions and integrate previous work. *Each can also be joined as stand-alone sessions and applied to what you are currently doing in class.
