The PPATH to High Engagement & Language Growth – Virtual Series

This ten-week, five-session Series will focus on breaking down the framework of OWL into concentrated and comprehensive pieces. This  planning structure, known as PPATH, allows for the Four Values of Equity & Relationships, Proficiency, Engagement and Empowerment to come to life. The integration of the PPATH elements will cultivate a space where students are engaging in the target language, building relationships, growing in the language and owning their learning experience, all while having fun! Whether PPATH is brand new to you, you are somewhat familiar with it after participating in an OWL PD, or you have been implementing each step of PPATH along the way- this Series is designed to deepen your understanding of each part of PPATH for successful implementation with your students.

Online PD begins at 4:00pm PST/ 5:00pm MST/ 6:00pm CST/ 7:00pm EST

Introduction to PPATHOctober 18, 2022

What is PPATH and how does it relate to my classroom  and community? PPATH is the backbone and foundation of the OWL structure. This session provides an overview of what PPATH is and shares how it will create a high-functioning, dynamic learning environment. When used together, the five pieces of PPATH provide a clear direction and set of strategies that will guide you in planning and consistent student language growth.

Maximize Student Output Through Pairings & GroupingsNovember 1, 2022

The social aspect of language acquisition is crucial for student production and growth. How can we create an immersive environment where students are constantly interacting with one another while staying in the target language, even at the novice level?! This session will unravel the science and purpose behind pairing, grouping and game structures and how we can start using them more frequently, effectively and purposefully in our online classes today.

Prompts & Questions to Advance Proficiency through Differentiation – November 15, 2022

What should we ask our students to do and how should we ask them to do it? What will prompt the task, and what will the task be? This session will focus on how to develop prompts using the OWL Curriculum Triangle and the ACTFL Proficiency levels as the guiding foundations. These tools will aide in differentiating for our learners. Additionally, we will discuss strategies for high student-engagement and production in an online environment and how they are a direct result of the prompts we create.

Use Accountability to Milk Topics & Incorporate Literacy – November 29, 2022

Through immersive learning, we are given a wonderful opportunity to incorporate this element of PPATH effectively. By using a variety of activities, we ensure further development of communication and literacy skills.  Most excitingly, we can pull new threads to start the PPATH process all over again. This often-overlooked step is given new life in our immersive environment and can provide relevant content to keep students engaged! Don’t miss this session, as it will help you provide extra support to students and allow them to continue to grow.

How to Use Transitions and Hooks for Higher Engagement – December 13, 2022

Two of the most unique and most commonly recognized components of OWL are Transitions and Hooks. Transitions are intended to help break down the filter, create movement and build the community. Hooks pique students’ interest and foster an engaging atmosphere. Especially in an immersive learning environment, hooks and transitions used together are powerful tools to keep content relevant and interest high. If you are wondering how to use transitions on a daily basis, keep kids moving and incorporate hooks for maximum buy-in, this is the session for you.
