Spring Into Action! Virtual Series 2023

This five session series will provide you with all the tools necessary for an organized and confident end to the school year!  Facilitated by experienced OWL Trainers, each session will model strategies and provide resources guaranteed to leave you with fresh ideas. Participating in the Series gets you consistently connected to teachers from across the country who are also working to build a successful, dynamic ending to their school year. Designed for both new and experienced OWL’ers, this ten-week series will support and uplift you during the final weeks of school. 

All live sessions are one hour and are held on Tuesdays at 4:00pm PST / 5:00pm MST / 6:00pm CST / 7:00pm EST.

Building Community: SEL in the Classroom – March 21 – OWL Value: Relationships

It all begins with relationships. By having a strong community, knowing your students, and students knowing each other well, it is possible for students to achieve higher levels of language acquisition and growth. Students support each other in their learning and in their language use. This important session will demonstrate how to foster a strong, positive classroom culture that fosters confident communicators.

Planning & Structure: The Secret to a Dynamic Classroom – April 4- OWL Value: Equity

The tips and tricks in this session will provide you with the structure and basics you need to finish out the year with a dynamic, interactive, well-rounded classroom. We will share ways to save planning time, maximize target language use in class, fluidly incorporate literacy and put the learning on the student. Building off of the OWL PPATH planning structure, whether new to OWL, or at it for years, there will be something new to discover Don’t miss this one to get the tools you need for an end of the year that will focus on the student doing!

Spring into Fun! High Engagement Strategies for All Levels – April 22 – OWL Value: Engagement 

As the year ends, it can be a challenge to maintain interest and engagement. In this session we will focus on how to keep the play, interaction and community-focused language development going all the way until the end. We will incorporate ideas for all ages and levels of language acquisition. The ideas in this session will keep our students and us moving towards a strong, joyful finish in the target language!

Empowering Student Voice: Incorporating Authentic Literacy – May 2 – OWL Value: Empowerment 

As our school year comes to a close, we want our students to leave our classrooms feeling confident and empowered to move to the next level in their language development. In this session we will focus on how bringing in authentic literacy at the level of your student’s language ability, will foster student ownership and spontaneous use of language. Through hands-on activities and modeling of the strategies, you will experience how to guide students to share and interact in the target language, while exposing them to relevant and authentic practices, perspectives and products. Join us for this session to keep our students engaged and motivated to continue their journey within the target language.

Measuring Student Growth: Proficiency-based Assessments and Feedback – May 16 – OWL Value: Proficiency 

How many of you would like to be able to know and demonstrate your students growth in the language? This session will clarify the difference between a performance and proficiency assessment, while offering examples and samples of proficiency assessments used in the classroom. Perfect timing for the end of the year as you are preparing your final assessments. We will also discuss how to focus on student self-reflection of their learning and how they can take ownership for their language level, through the assessments.
