This four-week series will provide you with all the tools necessary for a proficiency based, student driven classroom! Designed for both new and experienced OWL’ers, each week we will discover and explore resources guaranteed to leave you assured and with fresh ideas.
How the ACTFL Level Affects Classroom Structure– January 21, 2020
Literacy at the Novice & Intermediate Level – February 4, 2020
It can be difficult to know what kind of literacy is appropriate for our novice and intermediate learners, and it can be even more difficult to find. This session will share language level appropriate examples of multiliteracies, and will offer a collaborative document of links, authentic resources and hooks on topics that are currently occurring in class. Participants will leave this session with a new understanding of what kinds of literacy will most impact acquisition, and some solid examples to use in class.
Assessment & Feedback at the Novice & Intermediate Level– February 18, 2020
Assessment and feedback is unique to the language level of the students. This session will offer teachers a powerful ‘if, then…’ structure that aides teachers in providing students with the most appropriate feedback for their level. Along with this, assessment samples will be shared that relate specifically to the novice and intermediate level. For all of you who have been wondering how to do this at the novice and intermediate level, don’t miss this session!
Creating a High Performing Classroom– March 3, 2020
It is possible for students at the novice and intermediate levels to be communicating, interacting and acquiring language at a consistent rate of growth. We will explore which questioning strategies, activities and structures will most benefit students at this level of language.
