Introduction to PPATH– October 18, 2022

What is PPATH and how does it relate to my classroom  and community? PPATH is the backbone and foundation of the OWL structure. This session provides an overview of what PPATH is and shares how it will create a high-functioning, dynamic learning environment. When used together, the five pieces of PPATH provide a clear direction and set of strategies that will guide you in planning and consistent student language growth.

Maximize Student Output Through Pairings & Groupings – November 1, 2022

The social aspect of language acquisition is crucial for student production and growth. How can we create an immersive environment where students are constantly interacting with one another while staying in the target language, even at the novice level?! This session will unravel the science and purpose behind pairing, grouping and game structures and how we can start using them more frequently, effectively and purposefully in our classes today.

Prompts & Questions to Advance Proficiency through Differentiation – November 15, 2022

What should we ask our students to do and how should we ask them to do it? What will prompt the task, and what will the task be? This session will focus on how to develop prompts using the OWL Curriculum Triangle and the ACTFL Proficiency levels as the guiding foundations. These tools will aide in differentiating for our learners. Additionally, we will discuss strategies for high student-engagement and production in an online environment and how they are a direct result of the prompts we create.

How to Use Transitions and Hooks for Higher Engagement – December 13, 2022

Two of the most unique and most commonly recognized components of OWL are Transitions and Hooks. Transitions are intended to help break down the filter, create movement and build the community. Hooks pique students’ interest and foster an engaging atmosphere. Especially in an immersive learning environment, hooks and transitions used together are powerful tools to keep content relevant and interest high. If you are wondering how to use transitions on a daily basis, keep kids moving and incorporate hooks for maximum buy-in, this is the session for you.
