Online PD: Winter Series

This four-week series will provide you with all the tools necessary for an organized and confident start to the 2018 year! Designed for both new and experienced OWL’ers, each week we will discover and explore resources guaranteed to leave you assured and with fresh ideas.

The Power of the Organic Vocabulary List: January 10th 4:00 EST -or- 5:00 PST

As we further explore techniques and strategies for creating more student-driven learning environments, how to keep the content that arises in each of our classes organized is crucial for guiding our student’s growth. Join us as we share ideas and learn about one sample system for creating and maintaining an organic vocabulary list. We will also discuss techniques and strategies used to grow and use our vocab lists as one of the most powerful resources in our teaching!

How to Create Student-Driven Content to Create Connections: January 24th 4:00 EST -or- 5:00 PST

In this session, each participant will create their own topic web, then share and collaborate with other participants about where each topic could progress or grow. For each progression, we will include conversations and ideas around the themes of literacy, flow and post-planning. Threads & Progressions are the foundation of the OWL Curriculum Triangle and allow us to use our students as the driving force of content as we push them to higher levels of performance. Don’t miss this one!

Pushing Students to the Next Level through Questioning Sequences: February 7 4:00 EST -or- 5:00 PST
This session will give participants a chance to create questioning sequences from progressions pulled from their teaching experience or previous sessions of this series Through the review and use of the ACTFL levels, and the defining characteristics of each, we will become more mindful of the prompts we are giving our students. Come explore when, where and how to push for the skills necessary to acquire a second language!
Games and Activities for all Modes: February 21 4:00 EST -or- 5:00 PST
This session will encourage participants to think about the techniques and strategies they have learned about and implemented in their practice, and how they may apply to the development of new games and activities, as well as the review of existing ones. We will explore all three modes of communication: Interpersonal , Presentational and Interpretive and each participant will have a chance to share their favorite game or activity that will be recorded and sent out as a dynamic resource to refer to in the future!
